To the 'townies' of Newtownbutler and Lisnaskea the people of these townlands have been, and still are, known as 'The Drumlone Crowd'. 'Drumlone' with its crossroads, shop, and schools had a strong sense of its own identity. Today, the crossroads culture is gone, the car and the television have seen to that. We have also lost the schools and the shop.
This is a comprehensive and more or less chronological look at the area, its habitat, heritage and history. I have made a conscious effort to set these townlands in the wider context of parish, county, province and country. Many of the 'Drumlone Crowd' have ended up in various parts of Ireland and indeed in the furthermost corners of the globe. It is hoped that this book might find its way into some of these corners.
