This is a fictional story set mainly in Co. Fermanagh during World War II and the following years. The principal character - Ronan Mowatt - served with the Royal Canadian Air Force on the flying boats based on Lough Erne. Having visited his Fiancé on a dark October night he disappeared without a trace. The authorities classified him as having deserted his unit. He had in fact been involved in a cycling accident in which his body and the bicycle were pitched into a swamp along side the road. Both his body and the bicycle sank beneath the surface without any sign of what had happened.
